Speciality Coffee Begins At The Farm.
Great tasting coffee has to start with quality on the farm. Selecting Speciality Coffee - Arabica ensures you are buying the best. This must score above 80 by qualified Q Graders which set this coffee apart from commercial or sometimes described as premium coffee. Your selected coffee may be a single origin (from one farm or area) or a blend, typically from different countries. Blends will offer more consistency throughout the year where single origins may need to be replaced when not available or not at peak flavour.
Freshly Roasted Coffee - Freshness Matters
Working with an Irish roaster will ensure you get freshly roasted coffee. The coffee should be rested after roasting and delivered to you at peak flavour. Weekly deliveries will ensure you always have sufficient stock and the best tasting coffee. Ensure the packaging has valves to allow the naturally occurring Co2 to escape. Most roasters now offer fully recyclable packaging.
Consistency in Every Cup
You’re only as good as your last cup of coffee the saying goes so you need to have consistent, reliable machinery and skilled baristas. Every coffee type requires a different calibration for both brew head temperature on the coffee machine and grinder setting. Your roaster will advise you on the best brew ration for this coffee with dry weight in, wet weight out and best extraction time. Unlimited and regular barista training is key for your staff to understand how to get the best extraction and latte art so the coffee not just tastes amazing but looks amazing, every time. Most roasters provide complimentary training as they want to build a quality brand.
Quality Audits Keep Your Coffee Standards High
Your roaster cannot be with your baristas every day, so an appointed coffee manager is a good idea. Your roaster will provide a dedicated account rep who will help you appoint the right member of staff for this role. This person will be responsible for ensuring the staff and machinery are all meeting the standards agreed with you and your roaster. Secret Quality Audits carried out by your coffee manager and the Roaster’s Quality Team will ensure the standards are being met
Stay Competitive with Seasonal Drinks & Retail Coffee Sales
Seasonal drinks, flavoured syrups, teas and matcha are popular with younger generations. Your Roaster should provide training on a range of drinks and provide Marketing support with points of sales. Offering retail coffees in ground or whole bean will allow help you to become the coffee hub in your area. Your roaster will have a good selection of popular retail coffees that simply communicate different taste notes suitable for a range of homebrewers.
Choose the Right Equipment & Support for Your Café
The barista machine is the engine of your café, so it needs to be reliable, consistent and look well. A service and maintenance agreement is critical to ensure you can get issues resolved quickly when they occur. Grinders can block so having a spare grinder is never a bad idea. Your Roaster’s Customer Service team should be skilled in trouble shooting and assist in ensuring all major faults or resolved as quickly as possible.
Partner With a Roaster That Shares Your Café’s Values
Customers today appreciate cafés that prioritize quality, sustainability, and ethical business practices. By partnering with the right roaster, you align your brand with a company that values fairness, environmental responsibility, and community support. Most roasters now provide branding support which may include pavement signage, wall signage, countertop Points of Sale and menu boards. Social media support is also important to build your coffee brand online to grow your customer base.
Choosing the right roaster is a crucial decision for any café. Look for More Than Just the Beans.
