About Sumatra Single Origin

A sweet, earthy Indonesian coffee with a milk chocolate body. Works well for all brew types.

Sumatra’s rich soil and tropical climate gives this coffee a sweet, earthy richness and intense flavour.

Permata Gayo Co Op formed in 2006 in the Bener Merjah district by 50 coffee famers spread throughout five villages in the Bandar sub-district in Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia; primarily to increase traceability, sustainability and transparency in pricing to its members. In 2007, the cooperative was certified organic by the USDA and European Union.

A year later they became Fairtrade Certified. The Cooperative now has over 2,000 members producing 100% Fairtrade and Organic coffee, as well as Rainforest Alliance too. The Co Op also has affiliations with the Café Femenino project, and within 1 year had succeeded in building a school with the premiums paid!

We have worked with co-operatives in Aceh Provence since 2009 and visited in 2019. We witnessed the long distances travelled with cherries to the pulping stations and arranged for 10 de-pulping machines to be located in the estates to reduce travel distance.

Sumatra Coffee is one of the world’s finest coffees displaying rich flavour, extraordinary full body and distinctively vibrant, low-key acidity.

Works well in all brew methods from filter to flat whites.

All packaging is 100% recyclable in home recycle bins & resealable.

The best from Mccabes

I am enjoying Sumatra coffee from McCabes some years already, never disappointed. Most time brew it in Mocca pot, last months switched to Sage Barista , works very well. Thank you for the grand coffee!
